It's a common problem with WordPress users - you upload an image to your Media Library, to find out that you have to edit something. Your photoshoot the image and upload it again. As a result, almost every image contains at least two versions in your Media Library. Of course, it takes a lot of unnecessary space, and it is also not very clear. What's worse: if you've referred to images and then replaced them, references may no longer be correct, so the images will not even be visible. And manually figuring out all your images takes too much time (we already have a chronic shortage!). Fortunately, there is another solution: the Replace Image plugin.

Replace Image Plugin

The free Replace Image plugin allows you to upload new versions of your images while retaining the URL and attachment ID. This allows you to quickly and easily replace an image with an updated version, without your references being correct.

Installation and use

Click Plugins> Add New in the WordPress Dashboard and search for "Replace Image." Click 'Install Now' and then 'Activate Plugin.' The plugin works out-of-the-box, you do not have to configure anything in principle. The Replace Image plugin is very easy to use. You simply search for the image you want to replace, click on the 'Replace Image' button, and the rest will indicate itself.

Note: Sometimes you have to empty your cache before you can see the updated version of an image. Does not the plugin work? Then you may need to disable the cache of both your browser and/or your WordPress caching plugins. With Tools> Replace Image, you can read how to do that.
