WordPress has an update on a regular basis. After the update, the first reports will be released soon that this WordPress update has caused a website to be broken.
Of course, this is the first thought. You have just updated WordPress and now your website does not work well anymore.
However, it is not the case that the WordPress is immediately the cause. This is thought too simple. Does everything sound strange and illogical? In this article, I would like to invite you.
Why a WordPress update does not break your website
WordPress consists of several components. You have the WordPress software, themes, and plugins. All components work together to ensure that your website is properly displayed and contains certain functionalities.
Once you have WordPress installed, a default theme is already enabled and a plugin installed as Akismet.
As you want more features on your website, more plugins will soon be updated. In addition, of course, you also take a theme that suits your taste and may also contain more functionalities.
These are all extra things that are not standard in WordPress. When we update WordPress and there are no updates for the theme you are using and the plugins, would it by definition be in the WordPress update?
Themes and plugins can age
The fact is that WordPress is being further developed and further developed. Security vulnerabilities are being poached, bugs are corrected and new features are constantly being added.
When you use a plugin or theme that has not been updated for a while or does not fully conform to WordPress Coding Standards, it may not work properly with the latest version of WordPress.
In this case, it is not the fault of WordPress, but of the makers of the theme you are using or the creator of a plugin that causes conflict.
Can the WordPress really not be?
The chance that WordPress itself really breaks down is of course always present, but that chance is small. Every WordPress update is extensively tested before it is made available to everyone.
It's just that it's almost always a plugin or theme if something goes wrong. Should you encounter problems during the upcoming update, please shut down all plugins to make sure everything is working properly.
Is this the case? Then re-enable all plugins to check which plugin causes the problems.
You can also switch to the default theme to see if it's not the theme. If this is the case and the theme creator has stopped updating the theme, you may want to look for a new theme.
